Our nation's 200,000 miles of oil pipelines supply us with a commodity that is fundamental to the American way of life. Learn more.
Pipelines of the US
America depends on pipelines to meet its growing energy needs. Approximately 200,000 miles of oil pipelines span the country-enough to circle the earth about eight times. Pipelines operate in all 50 states and transport two-thirds of the fuel needed by cars, trucks, ships and planes. Pipelines bring important petroleum products to America's communities, including all grades of gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, home heating oil, kerosene and propane.
Established in 1947, AOPL is a nonprofit organization whose membership is comprised of owners and operators of liquid pipelines. AOPL members carry nearly 85% of the crude oil and refined petroleum products moved by pipelines in the United States.
Members are served by AOPL’s Washington, D.C. staff, which has a wide range of experience in government, law, regulation, and business. AOPL and its staff are committed to working on behalf of its members for successful and positive outcomes to challenges faced by the pipeline industry.
