CO2 Sequestration and Pipelines
Congressional Research Service Report on Pipeline Issues Associated with C02 Storage
Congress has long been concerned about the impact of global climate change that may be caused by manmade emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gases.1 Congress is also debating policies related to global warming and is examining a range of potential initiatives to reduce manmade contributions to global warming from U.S. sources.2 One approach to mitigating manmade greenhouse gas emissions is direct sequestration: capturing CO2 at its source, transporting it via pipelines, and storing it indefinitely to avoid its release to the atmosphere.3 This paper explores one component of direct sequestration - transporting CO2 in pipelines.
